14th May. History lesson
My beautiful Byron,
This Thursday finds me in Big Bear, a two hour drive from Laguna, enjoying some social distancing in the Mountains. I have been following your school program and reading your papers through the online learning portal. I see you scored high in History. That makes me happy. I had high hopes for seeing you enjoy the same educational opportunities as John, both from your parents and from your schools.
Sadly, Charlotte Adler, Tom Amlot and Michele O’Leary have very deliberately prevailed in expensive aggressive litigation preventing me being a part of your ongoing education, and succeeded by Court order in preventing you from even being a part of my life, however, I am pretty sure that they are wrong on every count.
That endemic system corruption lies at the heart of the system they represent, and underpins their every decision, just as the former President of Family Law, Sir James Munby, has articulated far more fragrantly than me.
Certainly although they may have won a great deal of money in trading your time with me, I think, eventually, you will still enjoy the educational opportunities I always had in mind for you, which will enable you to make up your own mind about who did what and why in the case of Adler versus Broulidakis brought by Adler and Amlot, and where the judge was switched with enormous irregularity, on the morning of day one, from a proper judge, DDJ Burles, to one Michele O’Leary.
In the meanwhile, I thought, with VE day last week, and with your grandfather being a veteran of WW2, I would share a history lesson with you.
I learned a bit about WW2 because I never saw my dad after I turned ten, and I got to know him through his achievements in life. I had an enormous appetite for studying history.
No doubt Manos did a great thing in 1939, when he was still in his early twenties, and saw the rise of right wing dominance threaten the free world. His own historical precedent was the Turkish occupation of Greece some 500 years before. (The Turkokratia.) He grew up all too aware of the 400 year occupation of Greece by the Turks; who, in their submission to Islam are ethically concomitant with right-wing believers. This History lesson is about right-wing people. Particularly, the racist-religious-right.
How they think.
Why they think the way they do. |And the consequences of this style of thinking.
Right-wing people represent a very specific way of thinking. They support social and economic conservatism. “Right-wing” is associated with people who believe simple binary constructs. They identify with the moment not intuitively, by being in the moment – but by referencing their decision making to ‘traditional values’ and the ‘existing order’. They long for ‘The way things were’. They want to either return to ‘the way things were before’ because all too often the way things were before represents the ‘Dark ages’. The times when traditional values included slave ownership as an entitlement of a middle class white existence. The bondage of a submissive class to a dominant one. Economically, this is ‘slave labor’. Where the entitled rich whiles can expect to profit from the indentured servitude of the ‘lesser’ class. Often this is determined by the color of the lesser class.
Right-wingers are the opposite of what my Father was and what I am. And what I raised you to be, until the unfortunate events of fathers day 2013, when Charlotte Adler and Tom Amlot succeeded in making Michele O’Leary decide your relationship with your father was less important than their right to play that endemic systemically corrupt business called family court to steal some £3 million from me in conduct that represents both blackmail and the ethical paucity of the same right-wing people you will shortly read about in today’s post about Hitler and his clan.
Right Wing thinking is good for succeeding in capitalist ventures. It is important to understand what Right-Wing belief is. Conservatism. And also that Left-Wing is not the opposite of Right Wing, as you might intuitively be drawn to suppose.
The opposite of right-wing thought process is Kindness.
Right-Wingers are not Kind. My story that you will read is not about Left Wing good – Right Wing bad. That is a typical right wing binary construct. The merits and otherwise of left and right are multi layered and I am always mindful that right wing behaviors are appropriate for certain moments in time.
Left wing thinking is irrelevant in this historical lesson beyond the observation that in all two party democracies, a strong opposition is essential for democratic process to succeed effectively. Usually two party democracies have a right wing party and a left wing party. The one keeps the other in check. When right wing groups are allowed to operate on their right wing principles without the checks and boundaries of a left wing opposition, things turn nasty, quickly. As they did in Germany in the thirties. Thsi is why I have chosen to write on this moment in History. It is the text book example of what happens when Right Wing government is allowed to operate without checks and balances.
Right wing people, conservatives, generally represent the base values. All too frequently this includes racism. They are invariably white and invariably use racist discrimination to claim superiority over different races. And to unify their number in a common cause.
To illustrate the dangers of right wing imbalance, we have the examples of History, and for today I have chosen to share with you three days in History. When the world changed because people who resisted right wing leadership took up arms. People like your grandfather. Who didnt have to go fight. They were not in the path of the Blitzkrieg in 1939. They fought for a different reason than their own survival. They fought to stop right wing believers.
In the twenties, after WW1, Germany was in a mess. In this mess, a man found a good formula. He appealed to the right wing nature of the people. He identified a common target – by race – and motivated religiously trained minds to buy into the right wing ways. His inspiration was Benito Mussolini, the right wing Italian dictator who contrived a version of right wing philosophy called fascism. In a short space of time he learned how to fool one third of the population with a system of lying called Propaganda. He promised these people a racist version of white supremacy that would entitle them to more than they had. He knew once people believed the fairy story of a God in heaven, they would believe any lie told.
He succeeded. Hitler came to power in what appeared to be a Democracy, as his Party, The ‘National Socialist German Workers’ Party’ gained seats in the Reichstag, but he was never elected President in a Democratic election.
Hitler was appointed Chancellor in 1933, then became President and Chancellor by decree in 1934 after his party gained power through thuggery and criminality during the course of the 1920’s and early 1930’s. Killing, lying, and deceiving people with fairy stories drawn from the same source as the Christian indoctrination educators of yore.
Eventually, by killing and stealing lying, he consolidated absolute power. He united all the right-wing people in a vision of white supremacy. And then, with the advantage of a tremendous engineering ability that the German people already had, he utilized slave labor to build a huge military. He unleashed to dogs of war.
Blitzkrieg is how the world came to see Hitlers right wing philosophy in action. You Grandfather and his generation saw what was happening. They were the strong at the time. Strong young men. They joined an Army – the Allies – and they went to work meeting right-wing force with an even stronger force.
The war lasted from 1939 until 1945. I have written about the last three days of Hitlers ‘Third Reich’. A right wing dream of a 1,000 year utopia for pure white Aryan supremacy.
It is important for two reasons. First, to remember that right wing people are a very real threat to the kindness motivated world we seek to live in, contributing in peace and harmony.
And secondly, your generation will face another battle of this kind. As right wing forces succeed once more in threatening the value of kindness in our world. Who would crush those who value empathy and the awareness that helping the less fortunate is essential to our humanity.
Right now, we have right-wing conservatives in the USA and the UK modelling very similar values to those that led to Hitlers power base in the thirties.
So here is my version of three days in 1945, 29 April, 30 April and 1 May.
What happened then does not need to happen again. Unless we forget the mistakes of history and continue to repeat them. We do not want to see right wing racists prevail again in 2020 as they did in 1933. Because, if they do, you can expect the same outcome that we saw on 29, 30th of April and 1st of May 1945.
Here is the blog I wrote for your History class.
