4th June, 2020. Riots

My beautiful Byron,

What a week its been. Not only covid consuming millions, but now we have the sight of right wing government goons attacking protestors who are stepping up to protest racist murder.

Pretty awful, in cities across America as well as around the world. One sector of people, the kind people, concerned by the cruel murder of a black man, George Lloyd, by a racist right wing policeman named Derek Tauvin, gathered to protest racist murder. And, quite illegally, because protest is a legal right in a free democracy, right wing government sent in goons – men in uniforms with no labels on them – which you need to identify right wing goons if they behave badly – to attack people for protesting racist murder. Using tear gas and rubber bullets and batons.

Trump even sent in cavalry – men on horses wearing tear-gas masks – to move protestors so that he could hold up a Bible to show how God was on his side. But what he didn’t do is put gas masks on the horses when he made them run into clouds of tear gas. He is not a thoughtful person and his dreadful decisions have really unpleasant consequences, even for horses.

On the up side, at least we are seeing protest on the streets. That means people are showing they have had enough of this right wing thuggery. And with any luck that will bring about change. Both in America and in the UK, where we also have a right wing goon government.

Racism is a most awful thing. Where the poorest white people validate themselves by using skin color as a criteria to make Black skin people inferior in opportunity to themselves. Unfortunately both Britain and America have an awful dark history, including making dark skin people slaves who could be sold and made to work for free their whole lives for the profit of their owners. It is like a disease whose cause is found in greed. And the bible, that gives them words to prove that Blacks are inferior and ‘born to till the soil.’ Racists are really the worst kind of people. We don’t like them.

I hope you are staying safe from the virus and reading lots of books. Now is a good time to find joy in the things you do.

Miss you,
Love you,
Daddy
