“On March 16, the Government reacted by saying people shouldn’t travel unnecessarily but didn’t institute any regulation of that.

“That was a major error that lost us seven days at least. In those seven days there could have been tens of thousands of people infected as a result of the delay to the lockdown.

“The World Health Organisation and other countries were recommending it at that time while the UK was still pursuing ‘we know better’.”

Asked why Britain’s epidemic was worse than countries like France and Germany, she said: “The decision in early March to stop testing and contact tracing in the community was one of the big problems.
“When that happened we lost sight of the number of new cases and were only able to trace people when they became sick enough to need hospital treatment.
“That was related to the lack of testing capacity, I accept that. That was then compounded by the ongoing transmission in hospital because of inadequate PPE.

“So there was a lack of testing, lack of PPE, lack of ventilators and the lack of hospital beds and NHS capacity in general.
“There are a result of ten years of cuts to the Health Service, a lack of investment and a lack of preparedness.”
She told the Mirror that Britain could end up suffering the worst coronavirus epidemic in Europe but added: “There is still huge uncertainty about the direction of each pandemic.

“In the UK we have a series of local epidemics. London is a much larger outbreak than Newcastle or Scotland. There are areas of the country not yet at the same level as London.

Asking if the easing of lockdown restrictions in Spain and Italy indicates we could see the same moves here in a couple of weeks, she said: “I think it will be very interesting to see what happens as a result of those restrictions.

“It is quite likely they will get a resurgence of cases.

“Hopefully if they have the infrastructure to test they will see that early on and be able to isolate the resurgence in cases. We will have the opportunity to learn from them.

No Policing deterrents were visible at any time in any of the pro Trump ‘Make America Work again’ rally’s. Police were there to shoot Rajji the Elephant in 63. But not to address the Elephant in their room today. The enormous racist Elephant. Of hatred, bigotry and ignorance.

We can agree in these polarized times that no Republican will ever agree with any non-Republican. There is no middle ground possibility for reasonable conciliation unless you are indifferent about racism. Finding a position of mutual respect for each other in this time of war will get you killed.

I have my own views on how Trumps legacy will be written, but I also understand similar views are pretty obvious to any other non-Republican.

The thing is. If you voted for a racist liar you represent a transparently stereo typical personality. Non-Repubs agree by universal consensus that this stereo type is based on dumbed down me-first racism in which Blind Faith Jesus training is the central component part.

Live performance musicians. That’s what’s on my mind billionaire Mark. Glad you asked.

For years I was dependent on being paid to play. I was not fussy. Anyone offered to pay me – I would show up with my guitar and a happy smiling face, and I would not leave until they had been uplifted by the power of music.

Pubs, wine bars, Working men’s halls, Police Xmas Parties. Hotel Bars. Thames River boats. Private parties in mansions. Sol Kerzners super bar in Sun City, Arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi’s society junket in his London Penthouse, about nine minor royal private parties, a few dozen Weddings. Twelve Bar Mitzvahs. Two funerals. One 65th wedding anniversary, where the bride shared with me the secret of their happy long marriage. She woke that day to see her anniversary present – a brand new Porsche GT – wrapped in a bow.

Year after year, averaging 300 gigs per annum, driving enormous distances year in year out to play the length and breadth of the UK. (Well – within 3 hours drive of Hampton Court.) Smoking on average 40 cigarettes a day in the process, before retiring that lifestyle at 29 years, 355days.

And yet – we depend on live musicians in so many ways. They keep that flag flying, because once that flag hangs silent, all your left with is DJ’s dropping their hits on your head. And that’s gonna hurt.

Your head will be filled with regret with every autotune Bass drum that is distorted with willful ignorance, buzzing with discordant overtones, that serve to bring both annoyance and anxiety into your musical experience.

Worse still – you could have Jesus dropped on your head by Kanye ‘Big-Butt-Plug-Praise’ West.

Anyway you cut it, without those musicians who pack their gig bag most nights and head out to serve the almighty remedy to everything, our lives in the present would be shit. But our lives in the future would be unthinkable. (For clarity if needed, drop Kanye Wests new Hit on your head.)

My friend Hugo Fernandes and I did many gigs together years ago. He kept going after I traded in my gig bag for the social distancing lifestyle. Hugo still does on average 300 gigs a year. Making people happy wherever he goes. Looking after the legacy of singing for the sake of pleasing the ear. And nothing more. Then – in the name of democracy – let us use that power – let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world – a decent world that will give men a chance to work – that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!

Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world – to do away with national barriers – to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
